Action: Valerian is an antianxiety, antibacterial, antispasmodic, diuretic, hypnotic, and sedative. It is used to treat dandruff. It may also help with insomnia, nervous indigestion, migraines, sleep disturbances, and tension. It has also been shown to help with the free-flow of blood platelets and relieve symptoms of heart pain due to restricted blood flow.
Application: Apply topically to the wrists, behind the ears, and on the neck and face as well as point of need. More effective if taken internally as a dietary supplement.
Fragrance Influence: Calming and relaxing.
Safety Data: Consult with physician if pregnant or under doctor's care. Test small area of skin prior to use for sensitivity. If skin irritation occurs, do not use water to wash, but use a carrier oil to dilute. Wash hands thoroughly after using oils. Avoid contact with eyes. Not for use on children 6 years and younger. Approved by the FDA as a food additive. Use with caution if pregnant. Repeated use may cause contact sensitization.
